What does a Art Restorer do

  • Examine and assess artworks or artefacts to identify deterioration, damage, or instability using visual inspection and scientific analysis tools such as X-ray and infrared imaging.

  • Develop and implement conservation treatment plans to clean, stabilise and restore works of art using appropriate materials and techniques that are reversible and non-invasive.

  • Document all findings, treatments and materials used in detailed condition reports and maintain accurate records for institutional archives and future reference.

  • Advise museums, galleries, collectors and institutions on proper storage, handling, display conditions and preventive conservation strategies to minimise future deterioration.
