From fire science fundamentals to interior attack, search and rescue, and incident command, every topic is built for real-world application. This course prepares you to protect your crew, your community, and yourself.
What your team will master:
You will master the science behind fire behaviour, including combustion chemistry, heat transfer, and the stages of fire development. You will learn to read structural hazards, recognise backdraft and flashover warning signs, and make sound tactical decisions under pressure. The course covers SCBA operation, PPE selection, hose deployment, and water supply management. You will practise primary and secondary search techniques, victim removal, and coordinated interior attack operations. Incident command principles, fireground radio communications, and crew accountability systems are also covered in full. Supplementary content addresses wildland fire, hazardous materials awareness, vehicle extrication, and firefighter health and wellness.

Lesson 3 • Structural Firefighting PPE Components
Identifies each PPE component, its protective function, and care requirements. Establishes the baseline equipment knowledge required for all subsequent field operations.
Lesson 4 • SCBA Donning and Doffing Procedures
Teaches correct donning sequences under time and low-visibility conditions. Directly supports safe interior attack operations covered in suppression chapters.
Lesson 5 • Air Management and Cylinder Monitoring
Establishes air consumption rates and turnaround pressure rules. Prevents SCBA air emergencies during interior operations by building disciplined monitoring habits.
Chapter 4HideHide detailsSee detailsFirefighter Safety and Incident Survival
Firefighter Safety and Incident Survival
Lesson 1 • Risk Management on the Fireground
Introduces the risk-benefit framework for offensive and defensive decisions. Provides the analytical foundation for all tactical choices made in later chapters.
Lesson 2 • Rehabilitation and Post-Incident Recovery
Establishes medical monitoring, rehydration, and rest protocols at the scene. Connects physiological limits from the PPE chapter to structured recovery practices.
Lesson 3 • Situational Awareness and Size-Up
Develops continuous environmental scanning and mental model updating. Enables firefighters to detect changing conditions before they become life-threatening.
Lesson 4 • Rapid Intervention Team Operations
Covers RIT deployment, search patterns, and downed firefighter packaging. Builds on Mayday procedures to complete the rescue cycle from both sides.
Lesson 5 • Mayday Transmission and Self-Rescue
Teaches the Mayday declaration sequence and self-rescue techniques. Ensures firefighters can initiate rescue actions before RIT teams arrive.
Chapter 5HideHide detailsSee detailsHose Operations and Water Supply
Hose Operations and Water Supply
Lesson 1 • Hose Types, Sizes, and Couplings
Identifies attack, supply, and forestry hose specifications and coupling types. Provides the equipment knowledge base for all hose deployment and flow calculations.
Lesson 2 • Hydrant Operations and Water Supply
Covers hydrant connection, flushing, and flow testing procedures. Ensures crews can establish and maintain adequate water supply for sustained suppression.
Lesson 3 • Friction Loss and Pump Pressure Calculations
